Companies producing edible bird’s nests (EBN), a popular delicacy in Asian culture, have ambitious plans to venture into the world markets. The sellers are sure the product will hit it big.
China is the main EBN market consuming 90% of the world production. It is one of the most expensive delicacies with one kilo priced at over $2,500. The main suppliers are bird’s nest farming firms competing with gatherers of wild nests. It is China that dictates the pricing policy to owners of the farms.
"We are looking at new markets, but if I sell raw bird's nest to Europe or India, they don't even know how to cook it", the representative of the largest developer of swiftlet parks that produce EBN said. Perhaps they will sell the product as a component of less exotic meals.
In addition to traditionally being eaten in soup, bird's nests are added in coffee and cereals to improve palatability as well as in puddings and candies. Its components are also used in cosmetics.
A huge marketing campaign is prepared to be launched in the United States, Europe, and Middle East. The unique product will be geared towards a young, wealthy and health-conscious consumer group. Research studies to provide an insight into the product’s properties are in full swing.
