During his trip to East Asia, Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, visited Japan. He was greeted by Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe. Among the planned arrangements, a festive dinner was held, dishes for which were cooked from products grown in Fukushima prefecture. Several years ago, a horrible disaster happened there due to an accident at the local nuclear plant that also led to an ecological catastrophe. Back then, a 9.0-magnitude earthquake and following tsunami caused core meltdowns at the Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant. Despite the fact that the catastrophe took place only 4 years ago, the consequences are dealt with rather well. However, experts point out that the environment of this region needs about 40 years to recover completely. Nevertheless, products grown there are edible. It was confirmed by Japan’s Prime Minister and the member of the British Royal Family. The officials tasted the traditional Japanese cuisine cooked from Fukushima’s products. Thus, they wanted to show safety of food and absence of any harmful consequences of the nuclear disaster. The Prince also visited a children’s center where he impressed kids with his juggling skills. Then the royal planted a tree in the middle of the center, wishing for a speedy recovery in the region.
