Russia’s economy gaining momentum amid Western sanctions

As it turned out, the Western sanctions have been a powerful driving force to spur Russia’s economic growth. Amid the fierce political standoff, the West dealt a blow to Russia’s economy with the aim of disrupting the economic environment. However, the sanctions seem to have the opposite effect. The tumbling value of the Russian ruble enabled securities holders to gain profits. The retaliatory embargo on food imports encouraged the Russian government to rely on the domestic market, so the forced shift of priorities is actually bolstering the economy. The year-to-date figures prove that the economy is eventually getting into gear and yielding decent results. Moreover, some foreign experts note that Russia’s economy has even outpaced its Western rivals in certain scores. Thus, the sanctions used to make an adverse impact on the Russian business in 2014. Nowadays, these bans are boosting the economic activity. So, investors are turning back to Russia under these circumstances. Currently, the ruble is leveling off. Holders of government bonds managed to earn almost 7 cents per US dollar amid the turbulent exchange rate of the Russian currency. On the contrary, investors were losing on other emerging markets at the same time. Meanwhile, the PMIs are evolving into a new level in the background of the ban on imports. Russian nationals have to buy goods from local producers. According to MSCI, Russia’s manufacturers listed on the Moscow Exchange prove to be more profitable in terms of gross profits as compared to the rest of companies on emerging markets. A number of Russian corporations have outrun their global competitors in a pace of business expansion.
