Euro could replace Czech currency

One more country can be added to the euro area. Currently, Prague is taking preliminary measures to join the euro bloc. Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Bohuslav Sobotka has personally confirmed such information about the government’s plans. According to the politician, a deadline for joining the eurozone has already been settled. “The year 2020 is the nearest possible date when the Czech Republic could adopt the single European currency,” Bohuslav Sobotka said in his speech. The Prime Minister stressed the importance and the necessity of setting a concrete date for introducing the single European currency. Importantly, the consensus in the government has not been reached on this matter yet. In addition, ordinary citizens are afraid of the Czech crown cancellation and do not want to adopt the common European currency. This opinion is shared by the opposition. Representatives of political parties, who oppose the government’s solutions, widely criticized this initiative and supported the idea of keeping the crown as the national currency. The locals are also in no hurry to enter the eurozone. According to recent poll data, only 19 percent of the Czech nationals are ready to join the union of countries using the euro. 47 percent of respondents are totally against the government’s plans, and this is the bulk of the electorate. Meanwhile, it would be better to keep an eye on developments. Probably, the population of the Czech Republic will change their opinion and welcome the decision to replace the Czech crown with the euro approaching 2020.
