The week, Berliners discovered in horror that they were unable to withdraw cash from ATMs in Germany’s capital city. The cash shortage around Berlin is caused by a strike of a local company responsible for cash deliveries to banks and ATMs in Berlin, Bloomberg reports.
The trade union Verdi, which represents the workers, declared a strike demanding better wages. “It is uncertain when the strike will be over. It could be today or even in four weeks. Everything depends on a response from the management of the cash delivery company,” a trade union delegate was quoted as saying.
“Almost all ATMs have already run out of money. The company expects to be under increasing pressure in the nearest days,” the representative made a comment.
What is more, train drivers and railroad employees are also on strike in Germany this week. It has brought enormous traffic jams across the country.
