Greece has no plans to introduce parallel currency

As Greek government spokesman Gavriil Sakellaridis said at the briefing on Monday, the government of Greece has no plans to introduce a new parallel currency in the country.
Making a comment on the article published by one of the German newspapers, Gavriil Sakellaridis underlined that the Greek authorities do not consider such scenario.
Besides, the spokesman added that the government does not think a new memorandum would be the subject of negotiation in the framework of any further financial aid.
Under the terms of two previous memorandums, the assistance should be provided to Athens only in case of their compliance with the program of reforms, which implies austerity measures.
Gavriil Sakellaridis noted that the government is seeking a new mutually beneficial agreement with creditors “that recognizes Greece's right to decide policy within the framework of its commitments and obligations" and clarified that Athens does not examine any plan B.

According to the Greek news agency, the spokesman reiterated that the government’s aim for the Eurogroup’s meeting was to confirm the substantial progress that had been made in the negotiations.
He also added that nothing ended at that meeting and there is still a road to be covered towards a final agreement.
