During an emergency meeting the European leaders and IMF authorities decided to intensify talks on Greece that is now on the verge of default.
The talks may result in the moneylenders approving a financial document that Greece would have to consider in the nearest future. The single document may lay the foundation for an international agreement and the last aid tranche transfer within the framework of the loan program.
As German Chancellor Angela Merkel emphasized in her statement to the press, the participants of the emergency meeting all agreed that talks on the deal with Athens had to be intensified.
The German Chancellor, French President, ECB President, Managing Director of the IMF, and the President of the European Commission took part in the emergency meeting. A certain difference of opinion arose in the course of talks on possible ways of lending money to Greece between the International Monetary Fund that follows strict crediting rules, and the European Union not wishing to exclude Greece from the eurozone. For this reason, the talks focused on the conditions acceptable for all parties.
