Despite the efforts by the US government to create new jobs, the unemployment rate increased to 5.5%. The official US statistics takes into account only those country’s residents who are in active job search. According to the data published by the United States Department of Labor, the number of jobs grew in the healthcare and service sectors. As for oil production, the situation is opposite. The 5% unemployment spans 8.7 million of Americans, another 6.7 million are part-time employees. The average increase in wages was 2.3% across the country, higher than the inflation rate.
However, the US unemployment rate data contradicts with the reports showing GDP reduction in the first quarter of 2015.
There are also some results from other researches. For example, a survey that involved US companies’ managing directors showed that there was no visible optimism about the US economy’s perspectives. At the same time, a poll carried out by US human resources services had a different outcome – most American companies are planning to expand their staff.
