According to SunEdison’s top Asia executive Pashupathy Gopalan, the company intends to invest $15 billion in India by 2022. SunEdison Inc.seeks to deepen in its foothold in the country and help power producers meet demand.
“We believe much of the growth in renewable energy in the next 15 years will be from emerging markets, and much of it will be from India and China,” Pashupathy Gopalan said.
SunEdison reportedly aims at a 15 gigawatt production plan mainly related to solar and wind energy.
The company has already agreed to invest about $2 billion in a joint venture with India’s Adani Group to build a factory to manufacture equipment for solar power plants.
Almost a third of India’s population has no access to electricity. That is why India wants to expand its power-generating capacity by 50% increasing the amount of electricity it gets from solar, wind and other renewable resources.
SunEdison manufactures solar technology and develops finances, installs and operates distributed solar systems worldwide. It owns hundreds of solar power plants with total capacity of 13.8 MWe.
