IMF walks out of Greece bailout talks

The International Monetary Fund pulled out of talks with debt-stricken Greece. The parties failed to compromise over the current issues.

According to IMF spokesman Gerry Rice, Greece and the IMF have major differences in most key areas, that is why, the IMF considers that it is impossible to reach an agreement in such conditions. Now the ball is very much in Greece’s court.

The European officials did not accept Greece’s plan as Athens did not announce its decision on the claims presented by creditors. Moreover, the plan does not contain earlier agreements over the budget.

Greece needs to repay €1.6bn by the end of the month. At the same time, the financial rescue program, under which Athens has received aid, will expire soon.
Most analysts are sure that Greece will announce its default in the nearest year.
