For the first time since 2009, the People’s Bank of China (PBOC) unveiled its data on gold reserves. As of end of June, China has 1.658 thousand tons of gold. The country overtakes Russia by this figure, Bloomberg informs quoting the regulator’s data.
In July, the Russian Federation had 1.25 thousand tons of the precious metal. Meanwhile, China’s reserves grew by 57% from 1.054 thousand tons in May during last five years.
According to the World Gold Council, the US with 8.134 thousand tons is the leader in gold reserves. The second place takes Germany (3.383 thousand tons) followed by the International Monetary Fund (2.814 thousand tons), Italy (2.452 thousand tons), and France (2.435 thousand tons).
