According to the UK Office for National Statistics, the unemployment in the third quarter of 2015 decreased to its lowest level since 2008 at 5.3%. The indicator equalled to 5.6% in the second quarter and to 6% a year earlier.
The number of jobs in Great Britain from July to September reached 31.21 million, an increase of 177,000 compared with the second quarter and 419,000 from the same period of 2014. According to the ONS estimates, 73.7% of the UK citizens at the age from 16 to 64 were employed in the third quarter of 2015. That is the highest level of employment since 1971.
The number of full-time workers for the reporting period rose by 273,000 to 22.8 million on a year basis. Meanwhile, there are 8.42 people having a part-time job, a rise of 146,000 from 2014.
From July to September, the number of the unemployed decreased by 103,000 compared to the second quarter of 2015 and came in at 1.75 million. On a year basis, the number of unemployed men fell by 130,000 to 957,000, while the number of unemployed women dropped by 80,000 to 793,000.
At the same time, average earnings in Great Britain climbed by 3% year-on-year, and average earnings excluding bonuses rose by 2.5%.
