Ukraine’s Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Oleksiy Pavlenko said that Ukraine is ready to provide Turkish consumers with food in case Russia imposes sanctions. According to Getty Images, Ukraine may replace Russia in the Turkish food market and the Ukrainian agricultural sector will ensure sustainable food supply.
Pavlenko points out that Turkey has imported agricultural goods for about $566 million from Ukraine during ten months of the current year. In particular, Turkey bought wheat for more than $55 million and sunflower oil for $75 million. Kiev plans to double the sums.
Earlier, the minister wrote on Facebook that if Turkey’s usual partners impose sanctions and stop supplying the country with wheat, Ukraine will be ready to double its export of sunflower oil, wheat and maize. He also added that Turkey is an old and reliable partner of Ukraine and that they are ready to ensure sustainable food supply to the country.
Pavlenko emphasized that Ukraine produces enough goods of fine quality to meet the needs of Turkish consumers in case Russia places a trade embargo on Turkey.
