Russia’s officials and mass media are strongly criticizing Turkey, which used to be a friendly country and a reliable partner in the Turkish stream project. The Russian government supposes that Turkey became a sponsor of terrorism and the world’s crime. The Turkish president is blamed for the persecution of the opposition, funding the right-wing organizations in case of war with the neighboring country as well as for attempts to revive the lost empire.
A year ago, during the Ukrainian conflict, critics used the same words to describe the Russian president. While journalists are presenting “a new enemy” to people, the Russian government is imposing sanctions against Turkey. As usually, the Russian officials have banned the import of fruit and other food from Turkey pretending that they are protecting Russian people from criminal and other illegal actions. Moreover, Turkish resorts turned out to be very dangerous for Russian tourists. All leading Russian tour operators have suspended the sale of tours and canceled all chartered flights to Turkey at the recommendations of the Foreign Ministry and the Federal Agency for Tourism.
Some Turkish organizations on the territory of Russia have already faced restrictions concerning provided services, which were mentioned in the list determined by the Russian government. The construction sector is considered one of the potentially worst affected sectors due to the diplomatic crisis between Turkey and Russia. While the Russian authorities are thinking how to protect people from the Turkish food and resort, Russian people are browsing for “How to go to Turkey?”
