Microsoft stops supporting Windows 8

The Microsoft Corporation warned users about its plan to stop supporting Windows 8. This is the first time when the company decides to give up on software support after only three years of operating. Microsoft usually provides 10 years of extended support for its OS. Experts believe that weak demand became the major reason behind cutting this short for Windows 8. The product has excited little interest in the market facing a barrage of criticism. All Windows 8 users are recommended to upgrade to Windows 10 or Windows 8.1. Besides, the company announced that Windows 10 would be offered as a free upgrade to users with compatible PCs running Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 versions up to the end of July. Microsoft is actively promoting its new development betting also on enterprise users.

The developers repeatedly state that Windows 10 is the last Windows OS version by the company with all subsequent updates issued as regular installments. The company has recently confirmed that Windows 10 installation files are due to be automatically downloaded to PCs through update centers in the form of new recommended update. Such an aggressive policy has already produced good yields. Thus, Windows 7 captured 4.06% of the PC market share in 30 days after it had been released in October 2009. Windows 8 only had 1.09 for the entire month. Windows 10 managed to claim 5.21% of the total worldwide OS market share for its first full month of release.
