Debt negotiations are in progress in Greece. The Head of the International Monetary Fund Christine Lagarde informed in an open letter the Prime Minister of Greece Alexis Tsipras that the experts would arrive in Greece soon.
The letter was published right after WikiLeaks website made public that the IMF considered the default possibility in Greece. The IMF refused to comment on this matter.
Lagarde underlined in her letter that the team of the IMF experts who would be sent to Greece in order to continue discussions consists of experienced and trusted specialists.
Christine Lagarde invited the Greece government to establish favorable conditions for negotiations which would keep the confidentiality of the internal discussions. Besides, personal security of all IMF representatives should be guaranteed.
On Saturday WikiLeaks website leaked phone conversation between two IMF officials who mentioned that only new default would prompt Greece to fulfill its debt obligations. Moreover, the possible Brexit could coincide with crises in Greece. The conversation took place between the Director of the European IMF Department Paul Thomsen and Delia Velculescu, the IMF’s chief of mission in Greece. According to Thomson to make the players reach a compromise an imminent threat of financial crises is necessary. In particular, pension decrease and tax boost.
