The Chinese government is not planning to change its foreign investment policy. The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs posted a reply to the United States Trade Representative’s (USTR) report where it was stated first time since 2013 that the Chinese internet censorship has posed a significant burden to US companies.
According to Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Hong Lei, the Internet in China “provides a vast development space for firms from every country”, and “China’s policy of attracting foreign investment will not change” as well as “policy of protecting the legal rights of foreign companies in China will not change”.
Famous Internet control system Golden Shield began operating in 2003, blocking an access to popular social networks, search engines, including Google and its services.
Earlier China’s censorship was only discussed in human rights perspective, however, now the US can consider this issue as a trade dispute.
