According to a preliminary flash estimate by Destatis, the consumer price index measured according to European Union standards, or HICP, remained unchanged in May from May 2015.
Meanwhile, a Bloomberg survey of economists unveiled the median estimate for a reading of minus 0.1%.
From the prior month, prices rose by 0.4%, exceeding economists’ forecast of a 0.3% increase.
In April, consumer prices fell by 0.3% on a yearly basis and declined by 0.5% from March.
Germany's national inflation gauge edged up by 0.1% in May compared with the same period a year ago and advanced by 0.3% from April 2016. In the preceding month, prices fell by 0.1% and 0.4%, respectively.
According to the forecast of the European Commission, Germany’s inflation will come in at 0.3% in 2016 and 1.5% in 2017.
May inflation report for the eurozone will also be released today. Analysts expect it to decline by 0.1% year-on-year and to fall by 0.2% from April.
