Germany will get 40-45% of its total energy from renewable sources by 2025. The decision followed the latest reform to the country’s renewable energy law. It is to be adopted within a week.
The government of Greece and the leaders of Germany’s 16 states agreed on the main aspects of the new reform to the country’s Renewable Energy Act (EEG). Chancellor Angela Merkel said the final decision has not been made yet, but the agreement is approaching a final stage.
Merkel said that state premiers agreed that the share of renewables will rise to 40-45% by 2025 and that market-based elements to support renewable energy investment will be introduced.
Meanwhile, participants failed to agree on upper limits for biomass and development of networks and energy distribution produced by wind installations. German Economy Minister Sigmar Gabriel said he believes that the government will adopt the updated renewable energy law on June 8th, 2016.
