According to the findings of a study conducted by the Bertelsmann Foundation, the UK and Sweden have the lowest long-term unemployment rates. Meanwhile, the highest levels are recorded in Greece, Spain and Croatia.
The study showed that long-term unemployment declined sharply only in Germany. It reached a record low of 1.9% in 2015 from 3.7% in 2008. Over 43% of all unemployed are in search of work for more than a year and every third person cannot find a job for more than two years.
Great Britain, Sweden and Luxembourg have the lowest long-term unemployment rates with 1.5% and 1.6%. While long-term unemployment is most prevalent in Greece, Spain, and Croatia with 17.7%, 10.8% and 10.4% respectively.
In 2015, there were over 10 million people unemployed in the EU28 countries, 4.3% of economically active population.
