US billionaire and Republican presumptive nominee Donald Trump keeps surprising. Given Trump’s fortune and the fortune of other Republicans, one could imagine that Trump’s presidential campaign would be the most expensive in the US history. However, some independent observers carried out a detailed analysis of candidates’ spending and found out that Hillary Clinton leaves her rival for the US presidency far behind when it comes to money spent on the campaign.
The spending analysis was triggered by the statement of Trump’s staff that they almost doubled advertisement spending. Still, even such a large step failed to get the Republicans close to the Democrats. The Federal Election Commission reports that the businessman spent $7.8 million by the end of June and $18 million by the end of July. The difference in spending could be explained by the fact that Trump started a television advertisement only in August, while Mrs. Clinton spent $26 million on advertising in June alone. Besides, Trump has a small staff of around 70 people in comparison with about 700 people engaged in Clinton’s campaign.
