US consumer confidence rises above expectations

The Conference Board reported that its index for US consumer confidence rose to 101.1 in August, its highest level since September 2015. July's reading was revised to 96.7 from 97.3. Meanwhile, analysts had expected the index to rise to the level of 97.

The gauge of current economic conditions came in at 123 in August from 118.8 previously. The expectations index improved to 86.4 from 82 in July.

The percentage of Americans who expect business conditions to improve in the next six months rose from 15.7% to 17.3%.

In the meantime, the proportion of US citizens expecting more jobs in the next six months rose from 13.5% to 14.2%. The share of Americans who see their income growing in the next six months increased to 18.8% from 17.1%

The S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller 20-city index rose by 5.13% in June from a year ago, compared with a 5.25% rise in May. Analysts had called for a less significant increase of 5.1%.
