The eurozone risks to suffer Titanic’s fate. While the European Union is sinking like a rock, the EU citizens have no more faith in their leaders. Such problems as numerous terrorist acts, rising unemployment, and massive migration from the Middle East and Africa play a role of an iceberg. In addition, the situation is worsened by a dramatic economic growth slowdown.
The Europeans declare openly that the EU has let them down. Amid such statements, the policymakers’ comments are not quite convincing. It seems that the leaders don’t really know how to solve these issues, and they don’t have any plan. However, the authorities acknowledge that there are too many problems, not trying to pretend that everything is all right. Speaking at the summit in Bratislava, Angela Merkel said that the EU was in a critical situation, and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker spoke about the EU existential crisis. Well, admission of a problem solves it partly. As some analysts believe, first of all it is necessary to prove that the challenges can be addressed. The main thing is to catch an opportunity, as if the EU leaders do not take immediate action, their spring meeting can turn to be quite sad.
