Pouring Turkish Stream: another try to strike a deal with Turkey

Relations with Turkey has moved on to a new footing, when the friendly country can do absolutely everything. For example, during the 71th UN General Assembly session, Turkish President Recep Erdogan promised Petro Poroshenko that Ankara will help Kiev to restore sovereignty and territorial integrity. Besides, he stated that cooperation with Moscow wouldn’t change the Turkish official position, admitting that annexation of the Crimean peninsula was illegal and condemning the violation of the Crimean Tatars’ rights. However, it seems the Turkish leader didn't want to step on Russia’s toes, giving approval for the start of the legendary Turkish Stream construction at the same time.

Let us remind that earlier the energy ministries of the both countries made the decision to launch this project officially. Interestingly, this time the developments were rapid. A working group was created at once, which solved all urgent issued promptly. Meanwhile, Gazprom’s deputy chief executive said that the Turkish energy minister had already confirmed the readiness to start the construction of the first gas pipeline. At the same time, just two months ago the Russian authorities announced that the realization of the Turkish Stream project couldn't be continued. However, Gazprom’s head Alexey Miller and Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Berat Albayrak have agreed to speed up the preparations for the project realization. Alexey Miller called the results of the recent talks positive news for the company, having emphasized Turkish motivation to realize the project as soon as possible.
