Isabel Dos Santos, the daughter of the president of Angola Jose Eduardo Dos Santos, is the first female billionaire in Africa, says Forbes citing its own estimates.
Isabel Dos Santos started her business career in 1997. At the age of 27 she opened the Miami Beach restaurant in the capital of Angola, Luanda.
Now the president’s daughter owns stakes in some large companies. In particular, she has acquired 28.8% of shares in ZON Multimedia, large Portuguese cable TV and Internet company. Forbes estimated this stake at $385 million.
Dos Santos has 19.5% in Banco BPI, one of the largest banks in Portugal, worth $465 million. She has also acquired 25% in Angolan financial company Banco BIC totaling $160 mln.
According to Forbes sources, Dos Santos received 25% in Unitel shares, one of the two mobile operators in Angola. Citing some analysts of telecommunicating sector, Forbes says that this stake is worth at least $1 billion.
Jose Eduardo Dos Santos became the president of Angola in 1979, four years after the country gained independence from Portugal. From 1975 Angola endured civil wars that ended in 2002.
