If we take into account all issues that surround the Nord Stream 2 project, it is hardly surprising that not only independent observers, but even some participants of the project doubt its successful implementation. Sanctions, disagreement on geopolitical issues and lack of understanding between countries involved in the project jeopardize further joint cooperation.
However, there is a person who just needs to say a word and the work goes with a swing! And this man did say the magic words. When reporters asked Russian President Vladimir Putin about the future of Nord Stream 2, he replied: “Nord Stream 2 will be implemented!” This confident answer dispelled doubts of even the most intense skeptics. “Despite the fact that complications arise because Poland did not give an appropriate authorization, all participants remain in the project – German and Austrian firms in the first instance,” Putin said. “Everybody wants to work. I do not have major doubts that this project will be implemented.” The Russian leader also noted that, despite the loud statements and political plays, none of the foreign participants of the project expressed a desire to leave. The president stressed that Russia's interests in the successful implementation of the project are very high, as first and foremost a seller depends on buyers, but not the opposite. “In particular, and this is not declared publicly, Gazprom is delivering as much gas to Europe as neither Russia nor the Soviet Union has ever supplied before. There is an absolutely groundless idea that buyers of our gas fall into dependence on Russia. This is an absolute foolish and worthless argument because such dependence is mutual,” he added.
