Libyan dinars without the image of ex-head of the country Muammar al Gaddafi have been put into circulation in Libya, as reported by Libya Herald.
The banknotes were issued in denominations of one, five, ten, and twenty Libyan dinars. Previously the country’s central bank planned to issue a 50 dinar bill but then altered its decision. New dinars were delivered on January 30 in the Mitiga airport. New paper money will be adopted gradually. Old dinars were originally valid until November 1, 2012, and then the date was extended to the end of February 2013. Old notes are accepted at the central bank, as well as its branches. New coins in denominations of 50, 100 dirhams, half-dinar, quarter-dinar are also planned to be issued. Libyan dinar exchange rate for the end of January is about $0.8.
