March 12 was marked by a maiden flight of the first India-made rocket that successfully took off from the Chandipur launch complex in the south of the country. The cruise missile was called Nirbhay, which means “fearless” in Indian. However, despite the successful start, it veered off from its course, hence it was destroyed.
If the specialists manage to eliminate all its drawbacks, Nirbhay will become a decent equivalent to American Tomahawk. The Indian rocket is said to have a range of 700 km. It can also fly at a very low altitude and carry a nuclear warhead avoiding detection. It is possible to launch the cruise missile from land, sea, and air too.
According to the local mass media, the Indian Defence Research & Development Organization is currently developing a long-range Agni-VI ballistic missile that is capable of carrying several nuclear warheads.
