Amid rapid development of computer technologies and their massive introduction into our lives, hacker attacks cease to be something improbable and more Internet users begin to worry about their cyber security. Nowadays, hackers target more and more companies. Several years ago, there were very few cyberattacks, but now the number of victims is measured in hundreds.
Another series of attacks was launched on hundreds of companies in Ukraine, Russia, and some European countries. Specifically, the malware completely froze operation of all branches of Russia’s Home Credit Bank, so the bank had to temporarily withdraw client servicing. Russian oil company Bashneft suffered a similar attack. All servers of the company and its subsidiaries went down. Bashneft’s system administrators were not able to counter a clone of the WannaCrypt malware that infected other companies a month ago. In addition, the Petya ransomware has confidently taken over the Internet. The third malware has not been identified yet, but experts say that it exists and it differs from the first two viruses.
However, it turned out that some systems are a hard nut to crack. For example, Sberbank and Alfa Bank, the largest representatives of the Russian banking industry, officially announced that they are working on a regular basis. Still, banks’ officials do not specify whether this is thanks to their own computer security services or hackers have not attacked these companies yet.
