At the end of the last week, new leaders of the People’s Republic of China were elected. A new President of the People's Republic of China is Xi Jinping, the head of China's ruling Communist Party since 2012. Li Keqiang was appointed as a Chinese Premier. Besides shifts in top management, the government underwent reorganization; some departments were eliminated, while some were united.
At the two-week session of the National People's Congress, Xi Jinping portrayed his plan. The keynote of his inaugural address was the concept of a “Chinese dream”. This word combination is likely to become a motto for the next decade.
Xi Jinping defined the “Chinese dream” as “the dream of the people”, adding that it “can be proposed by the leadership, but it is at its heart all about the people.” His definition conveys the message of transforming the country into a globally recognized power with prosperous population and the Communist Party at the helm.
“We must make persistent efforts, press ahead with indomitable will, continue to push forward the great cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics, and strive to achieve the Chinese dream of great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation,” Mr Jinping emphasized.
The new President of the People’s Republic of China also made it clear that the way to the “Chinese dream” is unique, so China is not going to follow a foreign development model.
In his speech, Mr Jinping proudly lauded a rich creative and cultural potential of China’s people as well as a great historical and traditional heritage of the country.
Additionally, Xi Jinping stressed that China will “unswervingly follow the path of peaceful development”. However, he said, “The armed forces need to be ready to assemble at the first call of the Communist Party of China and be capable of fighting and winning any battle.”
The Chinese people have called the upcoming decade the “Xi-Li era”, because both leaders are committed to make the “Chinese dream” come true.
