President of the United States Donald Trump signed a document on the introduction of new sanctions against Venezuela and its oil companies, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders announced this week.
Trump approved introduction of a ban on operations with new bonds that were issued by the Venezuelan government and oil producing companies in the country.
In addition, the US plans to limit transactions with certain bonds placed by the Venezuelan state-owned companies, as well as paying dividends on government-owned securities.
Earlier, Washington froze assets of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, accusing him of human rights violations and organization of illegal voting. Moreover, the US introduced sanctions against 13 high-ranking Venezuelan officials.
However, it is the first time when sanctions cover the oil sector.
