EU Council disagrees with EP on 2018 budget

It turns out that government officials can not only steal budget money but also spend them on the development of their country or region. Moreover, developed countries usually strictly control the distribution of their budgets and actively negotiate all expenses.

For example, the situation when the European Parliament and the EU Council can disagree about future expenses is quite possible. In Europe, the Parliament does not obediently listen to the political bosses and unanimously votes on any proposal but really represents the interests of ordinary citizens. So, approving the budget becomes a really important event. Debates, disagreements, and discussions allow both sides to find a consensus. That is exactly what happened when the EU budget for 2018 has been discussed. The European Parliament and the EU Council see the volume of necessary budget expenditures differently. According to the European Commission, it is necessary to increase the costs by 8.1 percent to 145.4 billion euros, while the EU Council believes that a 7.4 percent increase to 144.4 billion euros is enough.

It can be difficult to imagine that such important things as the budget can be entrusted to some councils and parliaments, but the EU Council proved its validity and independence, saying that "it cannot accept the European Parliament's amendments to the 2018 EU budget, voted on 25 October 2017." Now the parties have to begin negotiations and come to a common opinion on this issue. It is necessary to take into account that the EU budget is formed from contributions of all member countries.
