The US government has blamed North Korea for unleashing the so-called WannaCry cyber attack.
Microsoft and UK intelligence pinned the attack on North Korea, Tom Bossert, homeland security adviser to President Donald Trump, said.
“North Korea has acted especially badly, largely unchecked, for more than a decade, and its malicious behavior is growing more egregious,” Bossert added.
Donald Trump pledged to take all necessary measures to convince other countries help the US counter the growing threat of cyber attacks from North Korea. The president also intends to seek new sanctions against Pyongyang by the UN Security Council.
The WannaCry ransomware attack took place in many countries around the world on May 12, mostly in Russia. It targeted computers running the Microsoft Windows operating system. The estimated damage caused by WannaCry exceeded $1 billion.
