The Chinese found a powerful ally in the US market. The US government strictly monitors activities of foreign companies and restricts their presence in the domestic market using various administrative barriers. However, some companies manage to bypass these restrictions. Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi and American Microsoft have signed a memorandum on cooperation in cloud technologies, artificial intelligence, and hardware.
Experts are sure that the Chinese party made this step solely with a view to expanding its business in the west, primarily in the US. At the same time, the agreement will help Microsoft advance in the Chinese market, where the authorities also tend to keep away from foreigners. Companies will have mutual access to the technologies developed by both IT giants. For example, Xiaomi will be able to use cloud products, such as Azure, for their smartphones, which will allow the Chinese company to enter the international market. The US authorities have not yet reacted to the news about this partnership, perhaps, because the memorandum does not impose any legal obligations.
Earlier in February, US intelligence agencies warned the Americans about the possible danger of using smartphones produced in China, in particular, Huawei. The FBI, CIA, NSA and National Intelligence fear that the gadget maker is working for the Chinese government and may be involved in espionage.
