Virtual money still gives no peace to the supervisory authorities of different countries. Governments can not determine their attitude to digital currencies so far, but they understand that control in this sphere is necessary. The EU authorities are considering various scenarios for the future of the virtual assets.
For example, in case of a real threat to the financial system of the region, the EC is ready to regulate cryptocurrencies, Vice-President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis stated. The official said that "in the future the existing cryptocurrencies and related services will be checked for compliance with the current EU legislation". At the same time, Dombrovskis did not demonize the cryptocurrency market but in a civilized way explained that the authorities plan to exert control only in case of a real threat.
In addition, the EC Vice-President stressed positive aspects of the digital currencies, in particular, the blockchain technology. At the end of his speech, Valdis Dombrovskis once again emphasized that "the lack of transparency in the market of cryptocurrencies is in itself a risk factor as cryptocurrencies are subject to increased speculative activity and investors are in danger of completely losing their investments."
