Almost every country fears a trade war that has recently become a pressing issue. Everyone does, except the United States. It does not care about possible counter measures that can be applied by China. Donald Trump is resolute and stubbornly pursues his goals. Secretary of the Treasury Steven Mnuchin confirmed this fact. “We are going to proceed with our tariffs. We’re working on that,” he said. “So, as President Trump said, we’re not afraid of a trade war, but that’s not our objective.”
As is well-known, the US President has ambitious plans to make America great again. He even stands ready to unleash a trade war if it will be required to attain his goal. However, the war will not break out unexpectedly, but at a stated time. The import tariffs will be imposed only 30 days after all necessary consultations are held. Additionally, the Treasury will prepare the investment restrictions within 60 days. These restrictions will prevent Chinese companies and funds from buying US companies that possess strategic technologies. At the same time, Mnuchin said that the sides can strike a mutual agreement on some issues.
But it does not mean that the restrictions will be aborted. "We are proceeding with these tariffs, we’re not putting them on hold unless we have an acceptable agreement that the president signs off on," the US Secretary of the Treasury said. China, in its turn, prepares a package of retaliatory measures. So far, they have elaborated a plan to raise tariffs on 128 types of goods imported from the US. Particularly, taxes for imported pork can reach up to 25%.
