While Europe is suffering from the crisis, Germany stays financially independent and stable. That fact is a magnet for people from other European countries. The German Federal Statistical Office announced the record number of newcomers. According to the data, the immigration growth is 32% that is the highest over the last 20 years. Last year the number of official arrivals was 369,000 more than that of departures.
The main part of immigrants came from the most crisis-affected EU countries. The percentage of the Italian and Spanish potential emigrants is 40% higher in comparison with 2011 and 2012. But not just the European Union citizens are looking for a better life. Last year Germany received 68,100 immigrants from Poland, 45,700 from Romania, and 26,200 and 25,000 from Hungary and Bulgaria correspondingly.
These figures were was announced at the annual Destatis meeting in Wiesbaden on May 7. However, these statistics do not reveal how many immigrants took their places on the German labor market.
