Gazprom completes offshore section of TurkStream pipeline

Russian energy giant Gazprom said that it had completed the offshore section of Line 1 of the TurkStream gas pipeline across the Black Sea.

Currently, the construction of the pipeline's receiving terminal is underway, near the Turkish town of Kiyiköy. The deepwater pipelaying of Line 1 was carried out by Allseas' vessel Pioneering Spirit. It will continue to lay the second line of the TurkStream offshore gas pipeline in the third quarter of 2018.

Gazprom noted that the total of 1,161 kilometers of pipes has been laid, which is 62% of the overall gas pipeline length.

The natural gas pipeline will consist of two parallel gas pipelines stretching across the Black Sea from Russia to Turkey and further to southern and south-east Europe. Each string will have the throughput capacity of 15.75 billion cubic meters of gas per year.

The TurkStream pipeline project is set to be fully completed in December 2019. As a result, Gazprom will own the whole offshore section of the gas pipeline. The company will be fully responsible for financing the construction of both directions. Gazprom’s recent suggestions have focused on the possibility of two spurs – one running through Greece into Italy and a second running via Bulgaria and Serbia to Hungary.
