The large-scale inspection of the Canadian budget spending revealed a number of serious violations. About $3.1 bln earmarked in 2001-2009 for the preventive measures against the terrorist attacks cannot be found.
In that period of time Canada awarded $12.9 bln to the departments and agencies charged for the Canadians safety ensuring and combating terrorism, but only 9.8 bln of this money were used as intended. The Canadian auditors have not found out yet where the government funds went.
The fight against terrorism is one of Canada's priorities. All the state departments, from the Parliament to the special services, are qualified to quickly detect and eliminate any terrorist threat. Right after the 9/11 events the Canadian authorities started taking steps to provide security to its citizens contributing to it significant amounts of the budget money.
