On May 20 the American company United Airlines resumed the flights of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner that were stopped previously due to technical malfunctions. According to the Chicago Tribune, the plane full of passengers from Houston landed safely at the Chicago airport.
The passengers list included the head of the Boeing company Jim McNerney and the Dreamliner's chief engineer Mike Sinnett among others. The United Airlines representative said that, besides the domestic flights, Dreamliner will make the international ones. Moreover, at the end of the year the company is going to buy two more models of this airplane. To date, the United Airlines' fleet consists of seven Dreamliners.
The United Airlines, which is the only one American transporter using Dreamliner, returned the plane to the air after the Federal Aviation Administration authorization. The Ethiopian Airlines was the first company that resumed the Dreamliners flights at the end of April. In accordance with AFP, the Japanese companies, which are the world's largest buyers of the Dreamliners, will also start using this aircraft in June.
In January 2013 the Dreamliners were grounded in Japan and lately in the U.S.A. and Europe after the ignition of the lithium ion battery in several jets. The Boeing engineers could not identify the exact cause of the incidents, but developed the battery design to make fires less likely to spark.
