China will impose an additional 25% tariff on 659 US goods worth $50 billion, according to the Tariff Commission of the State Council.
China has imposed an import duty on 659 types of goods imported from the United States worth about $50 billion in retaliatory measures after Donald Trump's similar move.
The country’s retaliation comes after the US president imposed a 25% tariff on Chinese goods. The customs duty on 545 items of US goods worth about $34 billion will be enforced on July 6.
The Trump administration made the fresh decision to impose additional measures on June 15. Beijing considered Washington’s move unacceptable and violating the rules of the World Trade Organization (WTO). It responded with the introduction of duties on US goods.
Donald Trump decided to introduce duties on Chinese goods, despite the possible deterioration of relations with China. At the same time, Washington expects assistance from Beijing regarding the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula.
