UK consumer confidence declines to five-month low

The GfK consumer confidence for Britain showed a one-point decline to -10 points in July from June to mark the lowest level since February 2018.

Economists expected the reading to be broadly unchanged from June’s figure of -9. They expressed concerns about the situation. The GFK consumer confidence survey was conducted among 2000 individuals aged 16+ on behalf of the European Commission.

The lowest reading of consumer confidence index was recorded in July 2008, when it came in at -39. Meanwhile, the index hit an all-time high of 10 points in June 1987. The indicator’s average reading is about -9 points during the period from 1981 to 2018.
