Trump criticized the head of the Fed and his monetary policy. However, nothing happened after his words: Jerome Powell was not dismissed or pensioned off. In response to criticism of Trump, the head of the Federal Reserve replied that the financial regulator remains independent and the president has not weighed in with him at all on any role the Fed has.
Surprisingly, Powell’s statement had no serious consequences. He continues his work and is not going to change the regulator’s policy in favor of anyone. The most interesting part is that it was Trump who promoted Powell to this position, expecting him to adhere to an easy-money monetary policy, by keeping interest rates low. Trump is now disappointed in his own pick for the Fed's top job.
