In response to the new package of US sanctions, Russian officials once again threatened to stop using the dollar. For several years of the sanctions regime nothing new has been invented. This time, the well-worn story about abandoning the dollar was retold by Russian Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov. The Minister stressed that the government was trying to lift those restrictions by switching to settlements in national currencies.
The story about the abandoning was once again taken up by the domestic media, calling it a really proportionate response. Moreover,
with the way things are going, it is enough to simply threaten, the implementation of threats is not necessary in this case. Manturov also boasted that Moscow had already developed response measures to the US ban on export of dual-use goods. It does not necessarily mean that Russian manufacturers have developed technologies as a matter of urgency and started their own production. The way out will be importing inaccessible electronics components from the countries in South-East Asia. So we see another ‘adequate’ response of Russia.
