The United States is unbeatable in its urge to lavish Russia with sanctions though the country’s policymakers pretend to be unaffected by these efforts. Some foreign experts also think that the anti-Russian sanctions are no longer effective but it refers to the latest package only.
In fact, the sanctions imposed in August are very similar to the ones that have already been introduced. So, they are unlikely to have any major impact on the Russian economy as experts from Moody’s think. By the way, the opinion of this agency is authoritative for the Russian policymakers only when it is favorable to them. Otherwise, it has no value. But let us get back to the sanctions. The latest package is useless as it almost duplicates the previous one. Probably, the Americans have just run out of fresh ideas. If Washington wants to ratchet up pressure on the Russian economy, it needs to come up with something new to shatter the investor confidence. Meanwhile, the new restrictions deprive Moscow of any credit products, loan guarantees, and other financial aid. Besides, the United States refuses to provide help to Russia except for humanitarian assistance.
