Showing no concerns for the consequences, US President Donald Trump has threatened to withdraw from the World Trade Organisation, in his latest criticism of the institution.
It would appear that such a statement must have strong grounds, since the US withdrawal may provoke the mass abandonment of this trade union of a global scale by member countries. And Trump did find the reasons. In his interview, he criticized the World Trade Organization’s treatment of the United States. Besides, Trump rejected the European Union's proposal to eliminate tariffs on imported cars, stating that it was not good enough. Nevertheless, the European Union was the first to make concessions and agreed to increase imports of natural gas to Europe, reduce industrial tariffs, and import more US agricultural products.
Apparently, that was not enough, and Trump decided to use blackmail again. So far, it remains unclear whether he would pull the United States out of the World Trade Organization, time will tell.
