Japan seeks alternative to Iran’s crude imports

Japan’s top oil distributors plan to halt oil imports from Iran, amid fears the US will impose sanctions on countries importing Iranian crude, analysts say.

US President Donald Trump pulled out of a nuclear deal with Iran with an aim to reimpose sanctions against Tehran.

Sanctions targeting Iran's oil industry and companies buying the country’s crude oil will take effect on November 5, 2018.

Japan has been trying to secure a waiver to avoid the US sanctions, however the attempts proved unsuccessful.

Japanese oil buyers are looking for an alternative to Iranian supplies in a move to prevent oil shortages in the country.
