Back in 2010, Alexei Miller, head of Russian gas giant Gazprom, predicted his company would be the world's most valuable bluechip firm, worth $1 trillion. At that time, Gazprom market cap was $360 billion, three times as much as Apple.
Eight years have passed since that time, the gas company is valued at $52 billion, whereas Apple ranked as the most valuable company of all time. This cannot be called efficient management. Gazprom’s current market capitalization is three times less than that of Disney and six times less than the value of Netflix. The weird thing is, having access to the world's largest natural gas reserves, the company failed to outperform cartoon and TV series makers.
Gazprom is still ranked among Russia's biggest companies, worth 3.4888 trillion rubles. Meanwhile, the market valuation of its rival Novatek stands at 3.4893 rubles, with Rosneft, Sberbank and Lukoil leading the way.
