US President Donald Trump uses tariffs against other countries, including China, just to ease negotiation over trade issues.
“I’m using them to negotiate. And hopefully we can make a great deal with China. A fair deal. And a reciprocal deal, but a great deal and a fair deal,” Trump said during the press conference announcing new trade agreement with Mexico and Canada.
Earlier in his speech Donald Trump noted that China was willing to proceed with trade negotiations with the US but in fact Beijing was not ready yet.
The US 10% tariffs imposed on $200 billion worth of Chinese goods came into force last month. China replied with similar tariffs on $60 billion worth of US exports.
