The fact that Russian Gazprom lives in its own reality has long been known. However, today this reality is completely different. Therefore, while the partners of the gas giant refuse to participate in any joint projects, Gazprom launches one stream after another.
Recently, the company reported on the construction of 95% of the Power of Siberia and the Turkish Stream gas pipelines, although the number of the Turkish stream is not specified. On the other hand, there are so many of them that it already loses its meaning. The main thing is to build it. Returning to the company's press release, it reports on the construction of 95.5% of the Power of Siberia gas pipeline and 95% of the offshore part of the Turkish Stream gas pipeline. The leadership of the Russian company said that 2,064 km of pipes were welded and laid on the section of the Power of Siberia gas pipeline from Yakutia to the Russian-Chinese border. In addition, the construction of key facilities of the first start-up complex of the Amur Gas Processing Plant, an important element of the gas supply chain in the Power of Siberia, is being carried out at an accelerated pace. In May 2014, Gazprom and the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) signed an agreement that provided the annual gas supplies of up to 38 billion cubic meters for 30 years. The project was estimated at $400 billion. The government of Russia still presents this profitable commercial contract as its great geopolitical victory.
However, the "turn to the east" has a downside. Taking into account the price and real profitability, Russian taxpayers will subsidize Chinese consumers, and in reality only the contractors of this construction will receive commercial benefits. Now, all we have to do is to wait for the launch, which, by the way, is scheduled for 2019, and read the next press releases of Gazprom.
